10.12.2009 | The Knot Real Weddings

Well, our third and probably last feature on The Knot is up! About a week ago, I was contacted by another sweet member from The Knot. She wanted to feature us in their "Real Weddings". Here is a link to the first story and the second live interview.

It is basically a story they print about a couple with their favorite shots (The Knot's favorite). Had I submitted the photos, I would have probably chosen different ones.

The honor though, was the act that I did not have to submit anything. They approached us about it and I thought that was pretty cool. It's definitely nice to know that the effort we put into throwing a great party for our guests went beyond that night and beyond the people in attendence!

I still love receiving emails from other brides about using my ideas as inspiration for their own projects, so keep it up and let me know if you have too.

Here is the whole story about the feature.

9.29.2009 | Poor Customer Relations

Wedding vendors unfortunately have to deal with some nasty bridezillas sometimes. It's par for the course and it sucks, but when customer service is the make-or-break of social advertising in networking now, it's almost required for a vendor to treat each client with the utmost respect, especially when they professionally addressed disappointment in the final product. This is where "we are sorry that you were not happy with the results". There's no need to offer anything - just an apology will suffice.

Hence, A Piece 'O Cake should not leave threatening messages on their ex-customers' voicemails about suing them for poor reviews.

I am allowed to voice my opinion and the cake vendor sucked. A Piece 'O Cake from East Lansing gave us a shitty cake. Too bad for them - we were just notified that a national wedding site is featuring our wedding. One of the pictures they chose was of the cake and I denied them the right to use that photo. I told them I would never promote a vendor who leaves threatening messages or who can't build a cake to the specifications of the client.

That was easy PR that they missed. Our photographer and décor vendor will be receiving rave reviews on the national site, because of their professionalism and ability to execute what they said they would. Accountability is prime.

9.09.2009 | Knottie of the Week Update

Last Wednesday, I went live on the air for theknot's segment called The Knot Live. It airs every Wednesday at noon EST. They have approximately 25 minutes of interviews with people in the wedding industry and then the last five minutes are to interview a knottie.

The requirement is that anyone called "Knottie of the Week" has to post on the messageboards. I post on DIY, mainly. They also require that you have a bio of some sort to drive traffic around their site. I have this website, but I made a quick bio using this page. You can now check out the interview on The Knot Live Episode 12!

9.01.2009 | Photography Review

As if you didn't know I loved our pictures...

I FINALLY got a chance to write a review of Mitch Ranger Weddings. So check it out here.

8.31.2009 | Trash the Dress, kinda

On July 28th, we headed downtown to meet up with Mitch for a photoshoot. "We" isn't typical for a Trash the Dress shoot, but I asked Mitch for a favor since we didn't have many photos with our siblings Kevin and Lexi on the actual day of the wedding.

We all got back into our wedding attire. I wore my reception dress, Melissa Sweet's Mari, and we had a great time on the train tracks and rocks.

Check out more here.

I really love seeing pretty things on contrast with the rugged. We were never interested in photos on golf courses, churches, or the woods. Nope. Urban, cityscapes were more our thing. We just asked him to take us where a bride doesn't make sense and he did! It was so much fun. The shoot lasted for about an hour and in the end, we got some really amazing shots. Check out Mitch's work.

8.25.2009 | Knottie of the Week

How exciting! Knot Annie emailed to let me know that theknot wants to do a feature on me for Knottie of the Week on theknot Live.

I love talking about the wedding and being able to give other brides ideas, so this is definitely something I am looking forward to. I go live next week, September 2 around 11AM EST, so be sure to listen to the last couple of minutes when they show our wedding pictures!

7.29.2009 | Professional Pictures!!

We got them back yesterday - all 20+ gigs of pictures!!

It is going to take a LONG time to get through them and pick our favorites, but I am determined.

I'll be posting some soon.

7.17.2009 | How's Married Life?

The is the ultimate question newlyweds get to hear after the wedding is over and while a lot of couples say that it feels the same, it doesn't to us!

Even Donny agrees. It feels... different. For the first time in our relationship, I am not taking undergrad courses, masters courses, or making things for the wedding (for a little anyway, I have some projects up my sleeves). It just gets to be "us". It feels... calm, comfortable, ours. It feels nice. There are no more weights on our shoulders about anything, save this economy.

Regardless of the environmental changes, WE feel different. WE feel more connected and happier. This partnership is awesome. That's all I have to say.

7.13.2009 | Missing/Damaged Items

You think that after the wedding, all you have to do is write "Thank you's", but no. My décor vendor emailed me with charges for missing centerpieces and now I have an invoice for holes burned through my rented linens. $96 for two linen replacements. FAN TAST TICK.

Great. My budgeting skills were almost perfect until then. Now I will be off budget for another expense.

I still have not heard from the chair vendor. I can only imagine...

In the future, if I see people taking stuff from weddings I attend, I will surely stop them to ease the headaches for the bride and groom. Please leave the centerpieces alone unless you know they are for the taking!

7.12.2009 | We're Married

We've been married for a little over two weeks now, but I am just now getting to post. I've updated the site with some more of the DIY projects and I've posted some non-professional pictures along with some from the honeymoon.

The honeymoon was amazing. We met a lot of nice couples who shared the same wedding date. It was tough coming home and immediately going to work the next morning. You know what they say... we needed a vacation after our vacation.

We've been flooded with nice emails and great responses from our friends and family about how beautiful the wedding was. That makes the blood and sweat of all those projects kinda worth it. It looked better than how I envisioned it.

I've been stalking the photographer's site, but no pictures yet. I should have them by the end of this week!
